Since Huawei released its first multi-level intelligent control lighting Internet of Things solution at CeBIT 2016, the largest ICT technology exhibition in the world in 2016, Huawei has started to explode strongly in the field of urban street lighting. From NB-IoT to the hot smart pole, Huawei has become the industry leader.


Huawei connects hundreds of millions of people, environmental sensors and street lights through the Intelligent Internet of Things. It is no longer limited to lighting control and energy saving, but becomes the carrier of smart cities and smart transportation. As a comprehensive business of Huawei, Intelligent Street Lamp has been attached great importance in strategic level and product layout.


1. Huawei Publishes NB-IoT Intelligent Street Lamp Ecosphere


In 2017, during the World Mobile Congress in Shanghai, Huawei United Nations National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering Research and Development and Industry Alliance, China Lighting Society and Changzhou City Lighting Management Office jointly released the "NB-IoT Intelligent Street Lighting Ecosphere".


Since the standard freezing in 2016, Huawei has carried out NB-IoT intelligent street lamp pilot projects with lighting industry partners in more than 10 cities in China. NB-IoT technology features such as high security, high reliability, wide area coverage, convenient networking, etc. have well met the application requirements of intelligent street lamp, and it is a technology highly suited to the application requirements of intelligent road lighting control system.

2. Changzhou and Huawei cooperate to build NB-IoT intelligent lighting laboratory


On October 10, 2017, the first NB-IoT Intelligent Lighting Joint Laboratory in the field of global lighting was established by Changzhou Municipal People's Government, Huawei Technology Co., Ltd., Fuzhou Open Laboratory of Internet of Things Co., Ltd. and Changzhou Semiconductor Lighting Applied Technology Research Institute.


Under the framework of National Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Lighting Joint Innovation, Joint Laboratory will serve as a research and development platform for intelligent lighting direction, and further support the construction of national science and technology innovation bases such as the Third Generation Semiconductor National Technology Innovation Center in the future.


3. Huawei Publishes PoleStar 2.0 Smart Pole Solution


During the Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) in 2018, Huawei released the PoleStar 2.0 Smart Pole Solution. The scheme is positioned as the nerve endings of smart city. It can support 5G mobile communication, smart lighting, smart monitoring, Internet of Things, Vehicle Networking, smart environmental protection and city information publishing. It supports long-term functional evolution through open and standardized physical interface, and speeds up the deployment of smart city and 5G network.


With the rapid development of global urban informatization, the demand of smart cities, such as smart municipality, safe city and intelligent transportation, has promoted the rapid development of smart pole industry. The traditional overlapping mode of "one business one pole" brings about the problems of street poles and new poles construction. How to improve the investment efficiency of smart pole and reduce the difficulty of deployment of smart pole is the main challenge facing the industry. At the same time, 5G brings a new round of ICT development opportunities, at the same time, it also brings the challenges of site deployment to operators. How to obtain the site on a low-cost scale is also the main problem that smart city development will face.


Faced with the double challenges of low investment efficiency and difficult deployment of smart city poles, Huawei innovatively launched PoleStar 2.0 smart pole solution, which supports 5G mobile communication, smart lighting, intelligent monitoring, Internet of Things, smart environmental protection and urban information release, and provides leading infrastructure solutions for smart city.


First of all, PoleStar 2.0 enables local production and mass supply of energy poles through open pole design, and reduces the cost of pole manufacturing and supply. Secondly, PoleStar 2.0 uses standardized physical interfaces, which enable the pole body to have flexible business docking and expansion capabilities. Functional components such as cameras and sensors are connected to the pole body through standard physical interfaces, so as to expand the flexible functions of the pole and support the long-term evolution of the smart city. Thirdly, PoleStar 2.0 supports open business interfaces. Through standard API interfaces, third-party applications can access the cloud platform of PoleStar 2.0 to provide commercial services and enhance the business liquidity of the smart pole.


For operators, PoleStar 2.0 reserves a standard base station interface. With the large-scale deployment of PoleStar 2.0 in the smart pole renovation project, Urban Smart poles have the capability of docking 5G base station units, providing a large number of sites for 5G, realizing rapid deployment of 5G on demand, greatly reducing the construction cost of operators. At the same time, through multi-party sharing, PoleStar 2.0 deployment costs can be allocated to achieve a win-win situation among operators, municipalities and smart service providers.

4. Huawei and Taihua Intelligence jointly released the White Paper on NB-IoT Intelligent Lighting Solutions.


On September 6, 2018, "National Symposium on Intelligent Lighting Technology 2018" was held in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province. At the symposium, Huawei United Taihua Intelligent Industry Group Co., Ltd., China Telecom and Yingtan City Administration Bureau released the "NB-IoT White Paper on Intelligent Lighting Solutions". This is the first systematic description of the NB-IoT intelligent lighting industry technical information, for telecommunications operators, urban street lamp management units to deploy NB-IoT intelligent lighting scheme, promote the development of intelligent lighting and even smart city is of great significance.


The white paper comprehensively analyses the common pain points of traditional intelligent lighting and the advantages of NB-IoT intelligent lighting in the Internet of Things. It summarizes the application scheme of NB-IoT intelligent lighting meter from the aspects of cloud, pipe and end coordinated development, and looks forward to the development trend of intelligent lighting.


5. Promote the Development of Wisdom Pole


In June 2018, under the guidance of the Shenzhen Municipal Government and the Economic and Trade Information Commission, the Shenzhen Smart Pole Industry Promotion Association was established, and Huawei became the vice-president unit. At the same time, Shenzhen took the lead in issuing the "Three-year Action Plan for the Construction and Development of Multifunctional Intelligent Poles", which became the first top-level action plan issued by the domestic government. The General Plan of New Intelligent City Construction in Shenzhen has been promulgated to speed up the construction of multi-functional intelligent poles, to form a shared, co-constructed, intensive and efficient construction mode of urban material federation perception system, and to enhance the level of intelligent perception in the fields of public safety, urban management, road traffic, ecological environment and so on.


On June 7, 2018, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. participated in the compilation of the national standard "GB/T 36333-2018 Top-level Design Guidelines for Smart Cities", which was approved by the National Standardization Management Committee in the "National Standards Bulletin of the People's Republic of China" (No. 9, 2018), and was formally implemented on January 1, 2019.


All along, Huawei has assisted in the formulation of national standards from a practical point of view and actively carried out top-level design of smart cities. The "GB/T 36333-2018 Intelligent City Top Design Guide" is one of the most important standards in the standard system. Huawei, as the main editor of the National Standard of "Top-level Design of Smart Cities", actively carries out top-level design of Smart Cities and actively assists in the formulation of national standards from a practical point of view. It provides top-level design of Smart Cities for more than 60 cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Nanchang, Lanzhou and Sanya.


The top-level design of smart city is the key link between the overall planning and the specific construction planning of smart city. It plays an important role in connecting the preceding and the following, and is the important basis for guiding the follow-up work of smart city construction. As an important part of the national strategy of smart city, smart pole (multi-functional smart pole) is the main threshold for the process of smart city, and also the leverage of the times to leverage the smart city.


On March 14, 2019, with the great attention and strong support of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Guangdong Provincial Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Department and the Guangdong Provincial Communications Administration, the Guangdong Smart Pole Industry Alliance was established. Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. actively cooperates with and responds to the alliance as a governing unit.

Huawei Wisdom Park is also a lighting project based on energy-saving lighting. The whole planning area adopts LED street lighting construction to realize intelligent dimming, unified management and energy-saving lighting of street lamps, which saves money for lighting construction of the whole planning area. At the same time, Smart Park has 360 degree dead-angle camera to monitor the whole city. It collects the running status of the park road through the camera, collects the running status of all the intelligent street lights by the centralized controller, and transmits them to the monitoring center through the intelligent street lamp network platform. As the data source of Park management, it is the foundation of the construction of Smart Park.

This kind of pole can replace the functions of various poles now. It can be constructed once without repeating the long-term construction on the street. At the same time, the pole can also provide base station and public WiFi functions. In addition, the multi-function pole has video surveillance and emergency call functions, which directly connects to the police station, making tourists more convenient and reassured.
