Wipro Lighting is making a "big bet" on internet-connected Lighting to boost its commercial Lighting business over the next few years, the economic times of India reported.

At present, it works closely with cisco and pure-lifi, cisco for PoE (Power over Ethernet) and pure-lifi for Internet lighting solutions, two areas in which it believes commercial lighting is growing.

Anuj Dhir, head of Wipro's commercial lighting business, said the company was interested in smart lighting solutions for offices and smart city projects and had developed a range of products, including sensors and lot-based solutions.

The market size of commercial indoor and outdoor lighting is fixed at 70-80 million rupees (6.86 million to 7.85 million yuan), which is what the company focuses on.

Wipro recently announced a partnership with Schreder to provide lot-based solutions for smart cities and smart campuses, such as "smart rods," that can be used as hubs to collect and transmit data from a variety of services across the city.

"Ethernet powered (PoE) solutions are becoming more and more popular in Europe and the us," he said.

We've done some pilot projects in India and we're seeing increased interest.
